What Should I Wear? (and other stuff you should know before coming to class)

Picture
OK, we will not all start out looking like the Zumba instructors in this picture, but we will be working to be strong and confident in our own bodies!

Don't feel intimidated by images like these if you're not happy with your current weight or level of fitness. You are taking steps to make healthy changes.  Be proud of that!

Whether it's your first time, or if you're a regular, here are some good things to know, and keep in mind before heading to Zumba class:

DRINK WATER-before, during, and after class. Staying hydrated will help your energy levels, and help your body to burn calories most effectively.

MONITOR YOURSELF-During class, pay attention to how you're feeling, and how your body is reacting to the workout.  Watch your form. Keeping good posture, and pulling in the abs helps to reduce the risk of injury.  Slow down if you feel tired---even just walk or march in place as needed. Get a drink if you start to feel overheated.  By going at your own pace, you'll be able to keep on going!

DRESS TO MOVE...AND SWEAT!-Even when it's cold outside, you'll warm up fast! Wear comfortable pants and tops that breathe and allow you to move.  Make sure to wear a good, supportive shoe, but it's best to have one without a lot of tread on the bottom.  We will do motions that require twisting, and turning, and it's best to have shoes that work with you! And, wear supportive undergarments, too.  We'll be doing a lot of shakin' and shimmyin'!

FOR YOUR BAG-Bring water, a towel (you will sweat!) and in cooler weather, a jacket or sweatshirt to keep the muscles warm after the workout.
